Ambrosia American Fruit Salad. To describe it simply, ambrosia salad is a sweet, fluffy mixture of fruit, dried coconut, marshmallows, and whipped cream or whipped topping. Yes, if you've never heard of it, it sounds a little strange. But that explanation really doesn't do it justice.

Many recipes for ambrosia salad use cool whip, but if you've followed my blog at all, you know I would never use cool whip when I could substitute fresh whipped cream.   2. You need of powdered sugar.
  3. You need of vanilla essence.

A true southern ambrosia has moved on to more of a fruit salad these days, here made with apples, bananas, mandarin oranges, mini marshmallows, pecans, coconut and maraschino cherries, but it started out very simply once containing oranges and coconut.   1. Combine cream sugar and vanilla essence in a large bowl beat it with electric mixture until mixture is thick.
  2. Add sour cream and combine lightly.
  3. Collect all the ingredients together.
  4. In a separate bowl add fruits and marshmallows stir together add whipped cream and sour cream mixture into the fruits mixture and mix well until completely combined.
  5. Refrigerate it atleast for 1 hour before serving.
  6. I do not have canned coconut and oranges so I dry roasted the coconut powder and added 1 tsp powdered sugar.
  7. For oranges I have used fresh oranges and slit them from middle and taken out the seeds and for 10 minutes socked them in the pineapple syrup from canned pineapple.
  8. For sour cream I used hung curd and added 2 tsp lemon juice into this.
  9. While adding fruits make sure they should be drained properly.
